2022 Chablis, Vaillons, 1er Cru, Domaine Gérard Duplessis, Burgundy

Still in tank but will have some wood later. This is an all-round Vaillons coming from Chatains and Séchet higher up, plus Mélinots lower down at the west end and Epinottes to the east. A fine fresh salty nose. Brisk lemon notes on the palate, with the usual stony qualities, medium length. Actually finishes very prettily.

The 2022 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru was aged for 12 months in tank and 6 months in barrel (10% new). It has a lovely bouquet of yellow plum and touches of orange pith–much more generous than the 2021. The palate is well balanced with superb salinity, ample weight and tension. A subtle sour lemon note enlivens the finish. Excellent.
