2022 Chablis, Montée de Tonnerre, 1er Cru, Domaine Gérard Duplessis, Burgundy

A blend made up from barrel and amphora. Pale colour with a green tint. I can pick up some wood on the nose but not too much. The Montée de Tonnerre really does have significantly more body than the other 1ers crus, though the wood becomes quite present at the back. Yet there is easily enough fruit to cover it, in time. Already starting to knit. Impressive.

The 2022 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru, which was taken from vat, has a very clever reduction on the nose, fine delineation and concentration. Touches of yellow fruit and beeswax emerge with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a crisp bead of acidity. Not quite as saline as Deplessis' other cuvées, but it has a charming, tropical tinged finish that leaves you seduced.
