2023 Chablis, Vaudésir, Grand Cru, Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin, Burgundy
Description
Droin has 1.05 hectares in Vaudésir, split between two parcels, one each side of the steeply sloping valley. One faces north and brings freshness, the other faces south, providing weight and power. The nose is open and giving; peach, orange and sweet spice notes all jostle for position. On the palate, the sheer weight of fruit makes this surprisingly approachable at this stage. There is a creamy, viscous feel to the texture, nicely kept in check by a fine, iodine minerality.

Critics reviews
The grapes come from both sides of the valley. The 2023 Vaudésir shows a pale lemon yellow colour. Strict yet powerful on the nose. All white fruit. A fine stone laden backbone, elegance with intensity, while the late season sunshine enriches the finish. Really very persistent and never loses finesse. 40% wood.
