2023 Chablis, Les Butteaux, 1er Cru, Domaine Eleni & Edouard Vocoret, Burgundy

Chardonnay is arguably the most versatile white grape variety in the world. Grown globally and beloved for its adaptability, it can produce wines that range from crisp and mineral to rich and opulent. It thrives in a wide range of soils but performs best in limestone-rich terroirs, such as those found in Chablis, Champagne, and the Côte d'Or.

The region is home to some of the world's finest Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines, commonly called 'Burgundies'. Made from Pinot Noir, the reds are dry and full-bodied with silky tannins. Conversely, using Chardonnay to produce whites helps generate elegant, complex, and citrussy wines with fresh butter and toast notes.

Edouard's family owns Domaine Vocoret & Fils, a well known and large Chablis domaine, with over 50 hectares planted including six Chablis premiers crus and renowned for its solid, tradionally-styled wines. Edouard and Eleni partnered while in New Zealand but returned to Chablis to run a small plot of 3.3 hectares in the family vineyard. They are currently producing two wines: Chablis "Bas de Chapelot" and Chablis 1er Cru "Butteaux." Bas de Chapelot comes from 3ha just beneath Montée de Tonnerre while the Butteaux parcel is 0.3ha. Vincent Dauvissat is a mentor and a source of inspiration for the Vocorets.
