Description

At just over 0.5 hectares, Caroline has the largest holding in this, arguably Chassagne’s top Premier Cru. It’s steeply sloping, with shallow topsoil and lots of stones. The nose is discreet, with a mineral reduction; the palate is a little more open. This is a wine for the long term. There’s power, intense minerality and a salivating finish.

34 hl/ha Fine pale lemon, with a very distinct Caillerets nose - all the stones you could want - to support the pure white fruit. Impeccable density on the palate, bright yellow plum fruit, racy acidity, layers on layers here, Perfect balancing acidity. This has the power to age extremely well.

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has wonderful terroir expression on the nose, very nicely balanced, touches of lemon verbena, white peach and a light walnut aroma. The palate is very taut and linear, a fine spine of acidity with impressive salinity, especially on the finish. Great length and poise, this may warrant a higher score in the future.
