2016 Côte-Rôtie, Terrasses, Jean-Luc Jamet, Rhône

This is Jean-Luc Jamet’s flagship wine, and the 2016 vintage is regarded as one of its finest examples. It already shows some maturity, which gives it complexity and serious depth of flavour. The nose has savoury notes of leather, game and black olive tapenade, while the palate is lifted by concentrated ripe blackberries and gentle spice. The mouth-feel is smooth and pleasing. And although the tannins are fine, this will shine next to some hearty, meaty fare – preferable something straight from the barbecue.
