This is a whisky crescendo. Initially the nose is a little closed, but after a few minutes breathing in the glass, and perhaps a little warmth from one’s hands a glorious bouquet of dry, coastal, zesty ash emerges and grows to an immensely complex weave of seaweed, lapsang souchong, lanolin, sour lemon and underripe peach.

The palate continues this peated complexity throwing out more citrus fruit, ash, soot, harbour rope and leather, very dry, but just immense. The finish lingers long showing waves of sea salt, ash and citrus until one finds oneself cancelling the Spring ferry to Islay, and checking how to get to Mull instead.
