2020 Crozes-Hermitage, Domaine de Thalabert, Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Rhône
Description
Domaine de Thalabert occupies an impressive 40 hectares of Crozes-Hermitage – it’s both the largest and the oldest vineyard of the appellation. Cassis and blueberry perfume mixes with black pepper and violets on the nose. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with sweet, wild berry fruit balanced by fine, velvety tannins. Open and accessible, though it could hold.

Pure and lifted with the aroma of fresh, berry fruit. Less dense than imagined but pure, fresh and juicy with extremely fine-grained tannins. Refined and almost approachable but history says it will age.
Drink 2024 - 2032
Pronounced blue fruit character with pretty dried spice notes. Ripe and juicy. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and a fruity, soft close. From organically grown grapes.
The 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine De Thalabert is terrific as well. Coming from old vines in the Chassis region, it has a darker ruby/purple hue as well as classic Thalabert black and blue fruits, black olive, smoke, and ground pepper. Medium to full-bodied, it offers fine tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. It will evolve for over two decades.
Drink 2022 - 2042
Shimmering ruby. Expressive, spice-accented red and dark berry aromas are complemented by suggestions of olive, espresso and candied flowers. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering gently sweet cherry and cassis flavors that deepen through the back half. Finishes very long, spicy and smooth, with even tannins lending final grip.
