Description
This special bottling from the high density planting (30,000 vines per hectare) is only available in magnums. The wine has been vinified with 80% stems included as they were fully ripe. Bright red purple in colour with a beautiful deep cherry fruit nose, very sensual. Lovely, mouthfilling, yet with very good acidity behind. Superb finish, fine, floral and exceptionally well balanced.

Two recent trends which have been continued here by winemaker Pierre Vincent are a slight reduction in the amount of new oak, which now mostly comes from the local forest of Cîteaux, and a slight increase in the use of stems during vinification. The latter is subtly judged though, as there is very rarely any outright feel of the stems in the bouquet or on the palate. 2010 is a tiny crop here, averaging out at 24 hl/ha across the cellar but the wines are magically concentrated.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles La Vigne en Foule emerges from a high-density vineyard planted with 36,000 vines per hectare. It shows awesome depth and richness, with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate all the way through to the long, resonant finish. The Vigne en Foule is more about the expression of this unique site rather than a wine that reflects a ton of village character, but it has tons of personality just the same. There are just two barrels of this wine and it will be bottled only in magnums. Pierre Vincent used 80% whole clusters here. The vineyard was planted in 2002. It will be interesting to see what develops as the vines get older. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.
