Description
This single vineyard is tucked above the gentle flow of the River Orcia and the hilltop Castelnuovo dell’Abate at 250 metres altitude. Here the strata of soils here are mix of iron-rich clay and galesto, filled with calcareous marine fossils. Wild fermentation took place in concrete, with 30 days on skins followed by 36 months in botti. The wine is softly coloured, and the nose is perfumed with ivy, pink pepper and cool rose. The palate is compact and detailed with a pomegranate bite, earthy layers of smoky minerals and neat, chalky tannins. This is super stylish.

Delicate yet impossible to ignore, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino lifts from the glass with a darkly alluring bouquet of dried flowers, Tuscan dust and black cherries. This is silky-smooth yet racy in style, with cooling acidity and depths of tart wild berry fruits that slowly saturate toward the close. While tannins stain through the finish, the 2019 maintains a lovely freshness, leaving inner roses and licorice to taper off gradually.

Attractive cherry and berry aromas with some orange peel. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Linear and polished. Refined and focused. Subtle. From organically grown grapes.

Aromas of grilled Porcini, prune, camphor and toasted hazelnut form the nose along with a whiff of violet. Brawny and concentrated, the firm palate offers dried cherry, orange peel, licorice and bitter almond alongside densely woven, rather grainy tannins before an espresso finish.
Drink 2028 - 2034
The certified organic Tassi 2019 Brunello di Montalcino mirrors some of the qualities we saw in the new Rosso Greppino 193) with a bright and lifted presentation. There is red cherry, pastry cream, plum and rose tea. The effect is delicate and elegant with fine, chalky tannins. These are the good kind of drying tannins that also remain silky. This wine is enjoyable on all fronts, but it won't be ready for prime-time drinking for another year or so.
Drink 2025 - 2038
Mid ruby. Firm, savoury nose and with very subdued fruit. Supple, tangy cherry palate that is much more accessible than the nose would have you believe. Crunchy tannins on the finish, and my guess is that there is more to come.
